Thoughtful, Individualized Psychiatric Care

Lily Mental Health

Julie Bass, PMHNP-BC, PMH-C

At Lily Mental Health, care is built around the belief that effective psychiatric treatment requires time, thoughtful evaluation, and clinical judgment—not checklists, one-size-fits-all approaches, or reflexive medication changes.

Rather than focusing only on symptoms in isolation, this approach emphasizes taking a step back to understand patterns over time, prior treatment responses, and the broader context of each individual’s experience. Continuity of care and a comprehensive, structured evaluation are central to making accurate diagnoses and developing meaningful, effective treatment plans.

Care is collaborative and patient-centered, with an emphasis on helping individuals better understand their symptoms, treatment options, and the reasoning behind clinical decisions. The goal is not simply to prescribe or adjust medications, but to develop a clear, intentional plan that aligns with each person’s values and long-term goals.

Services include comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management, with specialized focus in nutritional psychiatry, women’s and reproductive mental health, and medication optimization and reduction when appropriate.

This approach tends to resonate most with individuals who value expertise, thoughtful decision-making, and a more personalized, in-depth approach to their care.

Lily Mental Health

Mission Statement:

At Lily Mental Health, my mission is to provide thoughtful, evidence-based care that is individualized, intentional, and grounded in clinical expertise. I focus on diagnostic clarity and a comprehensive understanding of each patient’s history and patterns over time, rather than relying on checklist-based or one-size-fits-all approaches. I use medication intentionally, with attention to pharmacology, long-term outcomes, and when appropriate, thoughtful optimization or reduction over time. I am committed to creating a space for patients who may have felt rushed, dismissed, or not fully understood, and to providing care that is collaborative, values-based, and centered on meaningful, lasting improvement.

Our Healthcare Professional

About Julie Bass, PMHNP-BC, PMH-C

I’m Julie Bass, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider. I completed my Master of Science in Nursing at The Ohio State University and have worked in mental health and psychiatry for over a decade across a range of settings, including correctional psychiatry, inpatient and outpatient care, substance use treatment, and an academic medical center.

Over time, my work has become increasingly focused on slowing down and understanding the full picture, how symptoms evolve, how treatments are experienced, and what actually supports long-term stability. I have a strong interest in psychopharmacology, including medication optimization, discontinuation, and hyperbolic tapering when appropriate, and have completed advanced training through the Neuroscience Education Institute, including the Psychopharmacology Masterclass with Distinction.

My approach is grounded in diagnostic clarity, careful assessment, and clinical judgment, with an emphasis on understanding each individual’s history and patterns over time rather than relying on brief or checklist-based evaluations.

I also specialize in women’s and reproductive mental health, including pregnancy, postpartum, PMDD, and perimenopause. I am a Certified Perinatal Mental Health Provider through Postpartum Support International and have completed a fellowship in reproductive and integrative psychiatry.

I enjoy working with complex and diverse populations, and work particularly well with individuals who have felt rushed, dismissed, or not fully understood in prior treatment settings and who are seeking a more thoughtful, in-depth approach to their care. My goal is to provide clear, well-explained guidance and a treatment plan that is individualized, collaborative, and aligned with each person’s values and long-term goals.

While medication can be an important part of treatment, I also incorporate consideration of factors such as nutrition, sleep, hormonal health, and other biological contributors when appropriate. This allows for a more comprehensive and nuanced approach to care.

On a personal level, my work is informed not only by my professional experience, but also by my own lived experience with anxiety and substance use. This perspective reinforces the importance of creating a space where patients feel heard, understood, and supported, while still maintaining a strong commitment to evidence-based, clinically grounded care.

Outside of my work, I value time with my family, personal growth, and being near the water. Lily Mental Health was named after one of my rescue dogs, reflecting values of resilience, compassion, and steady, meaningful progress over time.

“What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson.
